Governor of ATU Gagauzia makes an official visit to Hungary by invitation of the Speaker of Hungarian Parliament
The Governor of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, on October 1 and 2 makes an official visit to Hungary at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) László Kövér. In the program of the head of autonomy, a number of meetings are scheduled with top officials and heads of relevant ministries and departments.
In the course of the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Irina VLAH reminded that László Kövér visited Gagauzia in September 2016. This was the first visit of the speaker of the European state to the Gagauz autonomy.
During the hour and a half dialogue the parties discussed a wide range of issues. Special attention was paid to the issue of guaranteeing the rights of small peoples and national minorities in the modern world.
The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament showed a keen interest in the model of the Gagauz autonomy and noted that the experience of a number of European national autonomies may be in demand in Moldova. First of all - the South Tyrol and the autonomy of the Scandinavian countries.
At the request of the Hungarian side, Irina Vlah told in detail about the attempts of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova to repeal the Law of the ATU Gagauzia “On Education” through judicial instances. Irina Vlah particularly emphasized that the action of this regional legislative act is aimed at expanding the scope of application of the Gagauz language in the autonomy education system.
For his part, the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament expressed the opinion that all the emerging contradictions between the authorities of ATU Gagauzia and the central authorities should be resolved through dialogue and the search for a compromise.
At the end of the meeting, Irina Vlah invited the delegation of the Hungarian Parliament to take part in the celebration of the traditional Gagauz şarap Yortusu festival (Wine Festival), which will be held in early November.
