HEAD OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE OFFICE IN REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA WILLIAM MASSOLIN VISITED GAGAUZIA

On Tuesday, December 4 the newly appointed head of the Council of Europe office in the Republic of Moldova, William Massolin, visited Gagauzia. Governor of ATO Gagauzia met with a diplomat in Comrat. The Governor of the Autonomy congratulated William Massolin on his appointment and wished him fruitful activities throughout his mandate.

Irina Vlah highlined that constructive cooperation had been established between the authorities of Gagauzia and the Council of Europe. The leadership of the region is interested in the continuation of this cooperation. During the meeting, the Governor described the current social and economic situation in Gagauzia, and also touched on certain aspects of the political agenda. Irina Vlah thanked the head of the Council of Europe office for the assistance provided to the Central Election Commission of ATO Gagauzia on issues related to the improvement of this structure and compliance with international standards.

The parties also touched upon the topic related to the package of legislative initiatives developed by the working group of Moldovan deputies and the Gagauzian National Assembly. Governor underlined that a number of authoritative international organizations support the position of Gagauzia concerning the improvement of Republican legislation with regard to the powers of Autonomy.

 The parties agreed to conduct an active dialogue on the whole range of issues which were discussed during the meeting identified.
