Governor of Gagauzia Evghenia Guțul met with Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation

On March 7, Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia Evghenia Guțul had a meeting with Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia.
“We exchanged views on the World Youth Festival that has ended. I expressed admiration for the forum, which was organized and held at the highest level.
We talked about the support that Russia can provide to Gagauzia. I asked Mr.Kiriyenko to help open accounts for the Gagauz people in Russian banks for social projects, lift the embargo on the import of goods from Gagauzia, and also negotiate with Gazprom on gas supplies to the Autonomy at a preferential price.
During the conversation, we discussed with Mr. Kiriyenko the political situation in Moldova. I talked about the pressure on our autonomy from official Chisinau, about the violation of our constitutional rights. In particular, about the adoption of criminal laws on VAT and about obstructing my work in the government of the country. Also I shared the concern caused by the actions of the current Moldovan government towards political opponents. This is the illegal removal of candidates from opposition parties from elections, the closure of TV channels, and the complete destruction of freedom of speech.
I raised the question of the possibility of discussing at the UN the infringement of the Gagauz people and pressure from the central authorities of Moldova. We need to draw the attention of the international diplomatic community to the arbitrariness taking place in our so-called “democratic” country.
I think the meeting was very productive. I got an understanding of the difficult situation in which Gagauzia now finds itself and Russia’s desire to help us,” said the Governor of Gagauzia.
